Get Over Your Damn Breakup Already with a New Song from La Sera

Stop sulking, start running wild.

Boy, looking back on Sees The Light, the 2012 album from Katy Goodman (a.k.a. La Sera), it was really a major bummer, huh? Sure, it sounded poppy at times, but poppy can be deceiving, much like that poppyseed bagel that made you test positive for opium on your drug test and got you fired from your job at Kinko’s. Even the song titles on the album were little cries for help: “Break My Heart,” “Love That’s Gone,” “It’s Over Now,” “I’m Alone,” and her hit song, “Hello, My Name Is Katy Goodman And This Is A Very Sad Album, Just Look At How Sad, Looooook!” But on her new album, Hour of the Dawn ("dawn" is a metaphor for change, you guys), Katy seems over it. The song “Running Wild” features her… well, running wild and feels like when you bring you newly single friend out to the club after them sulking in their dark bedroom for five months. Sure, you might catch them crying in the bathroom stall once or twice, but at the end of the night, they drunkenly tell you how they’re glad they came out and how they “needed that.”

With liberating lines like “There’s no use in dying if you’ve never been alive,” Katy is sounding less like the sulking dumpee and more like the stable friend who has her shit together. So delete your ex’s number, pick up all those gross tissues off the floor, go to the park or something, and listen to the song below. Pre-order Hour of the Dawn from Hardly Art here.
