We love Sharon Van Etten. Well, I mean, I love Sharon Van Etten. Maybe the rest of the Noisey staff does too, but I don't really care. My conversation with her surrounding the release of her previous album Are We There was one of the most enjoyable interviews I've had in my career as a music journalist. She operates in a space in which she's completely shameless with feelings and emotions, and that's weirdly… okay? These days, kids love to make fun of other kids for being emotional—which makes sense because it's definitely not cool to be a whiny little brat—but Sharon's music is so blatantly honest and in your face that she transcends the bullshit that usually comes when someone gets too Emo™.
