Style Rider: Prinze George Wears All-White-Everything, All The Time

Hair and headpieces are also a crucial component to this indie-pop trio's onstage presence.

Exactly one year ago, a little-known trio called Prinze George erupted on the indie-pop scene with an electrifying debut single, “Victor.” Since then, the band—named after the county in Maryland where they met—has opened for Bleachers, recorded their full-length album, and, as of last week, dropped a fairly flawless EP. Unlike most first efforts, the entire thing is worth listening to repeatedly. Along with their victorious introductory single, which racked up half a million spins on Soundcloud, there’s the downtempo “Upswing,” unveiled on Noisey a few weeks ago, the euphoric “We Are Dreamers,” featuring former Style Rider fave Misun, and a handful of other tracks that deserve single status.

With the help of producer Kenny Grimm and drummer Isabelle De Leon, vocalist Naomi Almquist expertly incorporates R&B, jazz, and even disco into a motley masterpiece. But as genre-bending as their music is, Prinze George takes a much less diverse direction as far as on-stage style goes. In fact, the threesome pretty much exclusively wears white. This gives the young act an impressive uniformity when they’re performing live—which you should see for yourself when they come through your city.

The band’s hitting the road, kicking off a spree with six shows at SXSW next week, so we grabbed a second with Almquist to find out what they’ll be bringing along.

WHITE CLOTHES

“White is central to the music. It can be dramatic/high energy or ethereal/calm.”

CROWN

"I am a dignified version of myself onstage, so wearing a crown is crucial fo me to tap into that version of myself."

TOP BUN

“This hairstyle is both efficient and cost-effective. I can do it in thirty seconds with any off-brand hairspray, and it keeps my hair out of my face.”

BEAUTY TEAM

“Any time a final fashion decision is to be made, these goddesses are consulted first. We are in constant communication while they send me links, create image boards, and occasionally shop for the band.”

WINE

“Wine always helps and I don't discriminate.”
