Vertical Slump Reimagine Andy Warhol's 'Screen Tests' in Their New Video for "Chanteuse"

Imagine if the Factory was transplanted from Manhattan to Dalston, and instead of Nico, Edie Sedgwick and Bob Dylan, the films depicted members of UK DIY bands.

There isn't a band name on earth that articulates the exhausting hopelessness of modern life more accurately than "Vertical Slump". Consisting of members of Shopping, Omi Palone and more, they add an urgency and polish to British early 80s post punk without losing its fundamental tone of "ugh, fuck off".

We're premiering the new video for "Chanteuse", which recreates Andy Warhol's Screen Tests - silent film portraits of the Warhol Superstars. In this rendering, however, the 'Factory' is transplanted from Manhattan to Dalston, and instead of Nico, Edie Sedgwick and Bob Dylan, depicts the dudes in Vertical Slump plus members of the DIY glitterati Sauna Youth, Ravioli Me Away, Frau, Circuit Breaker and Slowcoaches, the staff of Unwork Records, and Drag-e-oke sensation Ruby Waters.

The video was made by Vertical Slump's own Simon Marsham in collaboration with photographer Tom Hall, and everyone looks the way we all want to be remembered but won't becuase HD has made us all look shit and real instead of strange and mysterious. Give it a watch below:

"Chanteuse" is taken from the band's Ruined Value EP, out October 2 via Icecapades and available to pre-order here now.
