Forget Halford vs Dickinson, Ozzy Sabbath vs Dio Sabbath or Metallica vs Slayer, we braved the heat at Melbourne's Soundwave on the weekend to ask the most important question in hard rock – Icon For Hire vs The Color Morale?

On a lineup that included Slipknot, Faith No More, Soundgarden, Judas Priest, Ministry and Lamb of God we walked among the black band t-shirted hordes to discover who was more popular; the 'kind of Christian band' Icon For Hire or The Color Morale, the most metal 'non Christian' band made up members who all identify as Christian.

Name: Chloe
Age: 17
Occupation: Blueberry sorter
Opinion: The Color Morale are much better. Icon For Hire are pretty crap. They're a try-hard Paramore, and Paramore are a sell out now anyway.

Name: Holly
Age: 16
Occupation: Student
Opinion: The Color Morale are better. Icon For Hire are crap. They're crap for no real reason. They're just crap.

Name: Chris
Age: 36

Opinion: It's a hard to say sort of thing. The Color Morale are more enjoyable for a few more years. Yeah.

Opinion: Icon For Hire has a chick singer, so… I would say Icon For Hire.

Opinion: Icon For Hire is something different. If you look at their film clips, one of them is like Alice In Wonderland gone to hell.

Name: Andrea

Opinion: Icon For Hire is more unique. The way she performs on stage, her vocals, how she trains. It's much more technically proficient.

Name: Molly
Age: 18
Occupation: Student
Opinion: My friend told me The Color Morale are good. I believe her.

Name: Jacob
Age: 17
Occupation: KFC
Opinion: Color Morale sound so much better. I listen to them more than Color Morale [for that reason].

Name: Josh
Age: 24
Occupation: Busker
Opinion: The Color Morale's word has spread much more. I haven't heard much of them, but if their word-of-mouth is anything to go by, this is going to be awesome.

Name: Jared
Age: 17
Occupation: Student
Opinion: Icon For Hire play as a package and it makes them a much better band than the Color Morale.

Name: Josh
Age: 24
Occupation: IT Consultant
Opinion: The Color Morale. They're much more theatrical than Icon For Hire. Much more.

Name: Lockie
Age: 17
Occupation: Unemployed
Opinion: I think Icon For Hire. They are both good, but the chick in Icon For Hire just has a unique voice. They're totally different bands. But I think Icon For Hire are a better Paramore. I think Icon For Hire is more metal. I see the Color Morale as more of pop-punk band.

Opinion: Icon For Hire. I dunno. I just fuckin' love their music. It's natural. It just feels right I suppose!

Name: Sarah

Occupation: Student
Opinion: Icon For Hire's lyrics are different and better. Their music, their lyrics - it's just better [than the Color Morale].
