Parquet Courts Are Returning Down Under So Sean Yeaton Wrote A Letter

Parquet Courts likeable bassist gives an update on his fatherhood.

Besides getting to see them play “Black and White” each night one of the pluses of tour managing Parquet Courts is spending time with four very cool and funny guys. The funniest of whom is Sean Yeaton, a New Englander in a band of Texans. Parquet Courts' bassist is a true raconteur and lovable smart arse. A guy who as part of a running bet with Laneway Festival promoter Danny Rogers wore a yellow lei for the entire tour. Just before the band left for Australia Sean learnt that his wife was pregnant with their first child. This didn’t stop him wandering, airports, hotel lobbies and music festival sites looking like a tourist from Waikiki Beach.

Since then Parquet Courts have released another brilliant album Sunbathing Animal and made a 24-hour Australian pit stop to play Splendour in the Grass. But the band have just announced an upcoming album, 'Constant Nausea' under the name Parkay Quarts which is due in December and a return to Australia in March to play shows including Golden Plains.

Sean wrote a letter about Australia and fatherhood and asked me to share it.

"Hey Tim. How are you, man? It's been a minute. I'm looking forward to seeing you soon. The last time we were in Australia we were only there 24-hours or something crazy. The time before that, when we were with you, I had found out that I was going to be a Dad the day before we left the States. It certainly gave me a lot to think about on the extremely long flight. Now, my little guy is here and we're hanging out right now.

He's just insisted on typing this for you: "nnnm n n n vccbhnhhjdddns a nbzxhhh bbbbbccchdjjxbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbx hcccddyds jyx djdeujwjn BNH VF"

Make of it what you'd like but I think he's pretty excited about something.

Last year, James from Total Control gave me a little stuffed animal kangaroo before we left from Perth, which subsequently became my son's first-ever stuffed animal. James didn't even know I was having a kid. No one did. It was still classified information at that point. Now that he's been here for a month, I can't remember life without him. I wish I could bring him with me to your insane continent but I don't think he'll be old enough to appreciate it yet so I'll bring back some choice items for him to get him excited about visiting you with his own band at some point. It's hard to say what he's really into just yet so I'll probably stick to the essentials like cute marsupial stuff and Tim Tams. They sell Bundaberg at the place around the corner from me so I won't have to worry about any bottles exploding in my suitcase; maybe I'll bring him back a pack of cigarettes to scare him straight about smoking since your packs are covered in all sorts of terrifying shit."
