Here's Bryant Dope's New Video for "QB"

Bryant Dope, radically re-imagining the old school.

At the risk of sounding reductive and needlessly drawing parallels where there are none, the whole "New New York" movement that's going on in hip-hop right now reminds us a bit of post-punk in the late seventies. And just like how the Heartbreakers or whoever might play something that reminded you of some older, classic shit that still managed to seem brand new, Bryant Dope's new clip for "QB" manages to radically reframe the old school to make it seem revolutionary. While there's nothing fundamentally different between this and, say, this awesome Blaq Poet video, it feels separated by an intrinsic, ineffable philosophy. And that, I think, is what New New York is about. Here's a quote from Bryant himself on the video:

"QB was shot and directed by Max Goodrich from Queens New York. The video follows my everyday life from working at Belief, a local skateshop in Queens to hitting the Converse Rubber Tracks studio in Brooklyn. The video also travels to a show I had to the Mercury Lounge earlier this year. The video is a visual depection of the life of a young rapper in New York trying to make a name for himself."
