On Friday evening, hundreds gathered in south-east London to pay their respects to Sabina Nessa, the primary school teacher who was murdered while walking to meet a friend. Police believe the 28-year-old was on her way from her home to The Depot pub in Kidbrooke when she was attacked last Friday, a journey that should have only taken around five minutes.
Last night, Sabina’s sister, Jebina Yasmin Islam, told the roughly 500 people gathered in Kidbrooke, “Words cannot describe how we are feeling. This feels like we are stuck in a bad dream and can’t get out of it – our world is shattered. We are simply lost for words.” She also thanked those in attendance for attending the vigil for her “amazing, caring, beautiful sister”. Two men arrested on suspicion of Sabina’s murder have since been released, pending further investigation, and on Friday police released CCTV images of a man who they say could be “vital” to the case. They are urging anyone who recognises the man to get in touch immediately.
