How Our Government Works (Out)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi finally joined the #HumFitTohIndiaFit challenge—watch how he and other ministers limber up.

Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore posted a fitness challenge on 22 May, calling for people to post video of how they stayed fit on social media with the somewhat megalomaniacal hashtag #HumFitTohIndiaFit.

Rathore, also in charge of Information and Broadcasting, posted a video of himself doing push-ups in his office and tagged Saina Nehwal, Hrithik Roshan and Virat Kohli. Though the hashtag racked up thousands of tweets, the best videos by far are the ones spreading amongst BJP politicians: MPs, MLAs and others.

Nearly a month later, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was finally camera-ready for his response to Kohli's challenge. His tweeted a slick video of his morning workout on June 13. The PM's regimen includes stretching, breathing, and massaging his extremely well-manicured feet by walking on a textured pathway.

This was all clearly just a warm-up to his next move: issuing a challenge to Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who the BJP battled on the floor of the state assembly not too long ago.

Kumaraswamy swotted it right back, not from his personal handle but the official CM account:

Ouch. We've compiled the best politician workouts below. Find out how our government keeps fit.

Union Minister for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju loves working out so much, that he posted two separate videos, from his office and the gym.

Piyush Goyal posted a picture doing yoga with an entire troupe behind him (surely this isn't his daily routine, the logistics for so many people must be exhausting)

The Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Mansukh Mandaviya posted a video of him cycling. Clearly the roads near Parliament are far smoother than ours, or mebbe that fuel hike hit him hard.

Meenakshi Lekhi just goes HAM on the butterfly.

Majinder Sirsa uses one of the park gyms as crowds gather on it would seem. Our favourite part is Sirsa tagging Suhel Seth. One can hope it's to use the same park gym.

Pratyush Kanth the BJP IT cell chief took a minute from relaxing his twitter fingers to show us how to do a crunch.

Meanwhile, anchor Ravish Kumar worked up a sweat wagging his finger at the whole enterprise:
