The Trump administration’s attempts to suppress research on science from climate change to vaccines has become a call to action for many usually apolitical scientists. And one grassroots activists organization, 314 Action, is trying to get them elected to public office.

The organization recently held a conference for over 100 researchers to teach them how to run a campaign and appeal to voters.

“I feel like President Trump is the gateway drug for scientists engaging in policy,” said Gretchen Goldman, a research director for the Union of Concerned Scientists.

VICE News attended the conference to learn what it takes to get out of the lab and into public office.
