We Watched All Ten 'Halloween' Films in One Day

And more film stuff from the Grolsch Film Works blog.

Our friends at Grolsch Film Works have a website where you can find out what they’ve been up to and read/watch interesting stuff about films. Every week we'll be plucking the highlights. This is that.

WE WATCHED ALL TEN HALLOWEEN FILMS IN ONE DAY

Despite the fact that Halloween is a pretty universal cultural reference, and despite the fact that I watch a lot of movies, I've only ever seen the original John Carpenter film, and never one of the many sequels that defined Michael Myers' place in pop culture.

So, in honour of the holiday season, I decided to sit and down and watch every single entry in the franchise, from Carpenter's original to Rob Zombie's latest sequel.

5 Reasons…
WHY THE CRAFT IS THE GREATEST HALLOWEEN TEEN MOVIE

I've been hearing a lot about Hocus Pocus this Halloween. People seem downright obsessed with Hocus Pocus. Sure, I'm always down for a little Bette Midler, but I think we're seriously forgetting the best witch movie of all time here. The Craft. It's The Craft. Halloween for me pretty much consists of overdosing on episodes of Bewitched and just watching The Craft on repeat while stuffing my face with the candy I had originally purchased for the neighbourhood children. Not only is it one of my favourite Halloween movies, but it's one of my all-time favourite teen movies of the 1990s. Which I realise is saying a lot. Hear me out.

JOEY FIGUEROA AND ZAK KNUTSON ON 'MILIUS'

Filmmaker and screenwriter John Milius – co-writer of Apocalypse Now and self-described "Zen anarchist" – in response to what rewards he wanted putting into a studio contract, declared: "Girls, gold and guns."

A major figure in 1970s Hollywood – the Ernest Hemingway of American movies – Milius remains a polarising artist, man’s man and political maverick responsible for some of the most quoted lines of dialogue in screen history. Milius is the subject of a new documentary by Joey Figueroa and Zak Knutson. We sat down with the enthusiastic directors during the recent London Film Festival to talk about John Milius, the man who inspired The Big Lebowski's Walter Sobchak.

WATCH THE AWESOME TRAILER FOR SCORSESE'S 'THE WOLF OF WALL STREET'

This year's Christmas might just be the best ever. Why? Because Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street – which promises plenty of laughs and features the director's trademark self-assured filmmaking style – is set to be released then, that's why. Happy Christmas, guys.

Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Matthew McConaughey and Spike Jonze (!!), the '80s-set movie is based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, from his rise to a wealthy stockbroker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government.

This new trailer has more than whet our appetite, and reminded us of Scorsese's bolder films like Goodfellas and Casino, not to mention Oliver Stone's Wall Street, obvs. Dare we say it, it looks like it could be a return to form.
