Watch Childish Gambino’s Y2K-Esque Performance of “Redbone" on Jimmy Fallon


Light grids and metallic trousers: this is the future.

Last night Childish Gambino took his neo-funk acid trip …Awaken, My Love! to The Tonight Show, performing the album's standout track "Redbone", a quietly groovy piece of Bootsy Collins worship.

A shirtless Gambino mounted the stage rocking silver trousers and an irl falsetto that I think most of us assumed had been achieved via studio effects, against a light grid backdrop that kind of reminds me of what we thought 'the future' might be like in 1999 and/or the inside of Prince's house. Needless to say, it's an amazing live presentation of one of the year's most interesting, experimental pieces of work, and if you're in the market to smoothly zone out from the world this is probably your best bet this morning.  Watch the performance below:
