The Best Things We Saw on the Dance Music Internet This Week

Vermont, Jubilee, Venus X and Igloofest make our list of the week's best things.
Every week, we round up a list of our favorite videos, stories, mixes and other dance music-related news from our own site and other places across the internet. Here's our list. We think you'll enjoy it. And don't forget to check out our Seven Most Played tracks, which features Denis Sulta, Elysia Crampton, and more.

1. Gyōsen Asakura

This DJ turned Buddhist priest conducts something called psychedelic "techno memorial services," at the Shō-onji (照恩寺) temple in Fukui City in Japan. Asakura is currently raising money for future memorial services. The above video, found this week, gives you a glimpse of what a psychedelic "techno memorial service" entails.

2. Ten things you can do to make dance music less sexist

3. Sober raving

8. Music and politics

In today's abnormal climate, to have a problem with DJs using their platform to fight for freedom and the betterment of others is nonsensical. Being angered by them leveraging their visibility by defending and upholding the civil liberties we all deserve is to be on the wrong side of history.

In this op-ed for THUMP, Austin Gebbia explains why telling musicians to stick to music, not politics, is dumb and toxic.

9. Igloofest

What's it like to mosh in sub zero temperatures? We investigate.

10. Debate Club

This new column from our friends at THUMP UK asks whether it is okay to take off your shirt in the nightclub. Our debaters might surprise you.
