Make Your Old Fashioned Minty for the Summer

The Old Fashioned is one of the most classic of cocktails, but few think of it as a summer drink. So, how to make it more refreshing? A hint of mint, friends.

Flash forward to your next cocktail party: a mint-infused Old Fashioned, and, probably, a round of applause from your awestruck guests. Made with Bols Genever and oleo saccharum, which might sound slightly scary to the home mixologist, just know that it only requires a little forethought and a few easy steps.

Genever, the juniper-y Dutch liquor, just needs a day or so to infuse with mint. Bonus cool points if you want to get weird with some molecular gastronomy tricks by infusing it in an iSi canister. (Ever get high off whipped cream can fumes? Same idea). Then you're on to the oleo saccharum, which sounds like a Harry Potter spell but is really just a sugary citrus oil. And, voila, the hard part is done.

The rest is straightforward enough—bitters, rocks glass, garnish.
