Of Course Paul Thomas Anderson Is Giving Thomas Pynchon the Tracking-Shot Treatment

There it is, all 470 feet worth of it.

There it is, all 470 feet worth of it. The photo recently surfaced on r/movies, and reportedly shows a grip of dolly track laid down on the set of Anderson's adaptation of Thomas Pynchon's stoner-spy romp Inherent Vice, which just wrapped shooting.

Anderson is no stranger to long, sometimes agonizingly drawn-out tracking shots. So if in fact the image is legit, and assuming the shot actually ends up making the final cut of IV, it'll be interesting to see how, say, a stoned walkabout with Doc Sportello fits into a body of work that's been slowing down, so to speak, as Anderson has matured:

Which has us wondering: If the master (sorry, wrote itself) of the moving camera ever dares take up Bleeding Edge, Pynchon's forthcoming novel, how will we follow Maxine, its virtual-reality heroine?
