Listen to the Bestial Debut from War Metal Supergroup Death Worship

The Ross Bay Cult is alive and well

After months of anticipation following the quite limited initial release of their debut EP Extermination Mass, war metal supergroup Death Worship has finally seen fit to make its macerating audio horror available to a wider audience. Comprised of drummer J. Read (Conqueror, Revenge, Axis of Advance) with teo members pf Blasphemy—Deathlord of Abomination and War Apocalypse on guitar, bass and vocals (Read's collaborator in Conqueror), with Nocturnal Grave Desecrator and Black Winds on vocals and effects—rumblings about this project have permeated the underground since its initial announcement back in 2013.

The EP's seven tracks took the band nearly three years to craft (understandable given the members' other commitments and well-documented perfectionism) and exist as a sort of dual continuation of both Conqueror and Blasphemy's now-classic sounds. That is to say, Death Worship traffics in pummeling, chaotic black metal that flirts with grind in manic speed and overall intensity (if not aesthetic or vocal political leanings—according to the audio interview included at the end, the only lyrical theme on Extermination Mass is "death and nihilism"). As per usual, J. Read's militant drumming is the standout force, but Deathlord manages to sneak a Revenge-style hell groove or two into the mix, and the production style will seem very familiar to longtime acolytes—the EP was handled by Ross Bay Cult mainstays Fiasco Bros. Recording Studios.

The band offered a brief statement on the eve of the EP's official release—"Another abomination from the eternal Ross Bay Cult! The long history of desecrating black metal continues here!"
