Rudy Giuliani, one of Donald Trump's closest allies, appears to be the leading candidate to become the next US secretary of state. A senior Trump official suggested there was no real competition, and when asked if there was anyone better than John Bolton, former ambassador to the UN, for the role, Giuliani replied, "Maybe me, I don't know."—AP

Obama Says Trump Will Be 'Pragmatic' President
President Obama is trying to reassure the American people about a Trump presidency, urging those who did not vote for him to "reconcile themselves" to the reality. Obama said Trump will be "pragmatic" rather than ideologically driven, "and that can serve him well as long as he has got good people around him," Obama said.—USA Today

Law Center Records Outbreak of Hate Crimes
According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, more than 300 hate crimes and related incidents have been reported across the country since Donald Trump's victory last week.
