Caribbean Disco Quintet FSQ Turns Damon Albarn Tropical

Soul Clap Records' disco-funk crew reworks "Lonely Press Play."
FSQ performing at Voodoo Fest 2014

With releases on the infamously groove-obsessed Soul Clap Records, as well as having a name that breaks down to an ethos of funk, style, and quality—the tropical disco quintet FSQ knows how to make you shake. The crew's members all have a long-running lineage in a deep musical space; Sa'D "The Hourchild" Ali is funk lord George Clinton's nephew and toured with his Funkadelic crew throughout the 90s, while band member G Koop is a studio wizard with production creds on Nelly and Drake tracks. Chas Bronz slings a guitar from behind the decks, helping add a dose of live flavor to FSQ's eclectic sound.

For their next mold-breaking remix, the guys put their hands (the one that isn't nursing a Piña Colada that is) on the single "Lonely Press Play" off Damon Albarn's 2014 Everyday Robots album. Adding some tasty bass, spacey guitar riffs, and a whole lot of Caribbean flavor—the group keeps a lot of Albarn's original vibe intact while bringing what's left straight to the beach, boi.
