This New Track From Pete Tong Is Essential, Obviously

Quality tech-house beats from the iconic BBC Radio1 host.

Celebrity DJ Pete Tong has is one of the busiest dudes in dance music—and he's barely released any music of his own. Tong, the iconic host of BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix series, was awarded an MBE a few months ago (basically, he's "almost" a knight), and continues to tour around the world. Now we've got word that he's returned to the studio. Tong called on his frequent production confidants Tom Flynn and Paul Rogers to assist him with his first project in a over a year, a track titled "Hear Me Now," which comes out April 14 on Catz n Dogs' label Pets Recordings. It's an all-around solid effort from a stalwart DJ: the kick drum falls with the force of a meaty fist clocking the shit out of an unfortunate face, and the synths whine overhead like drones about to strike. While Pete himself is usually the one to name a track "essential," we figured this was our one chance to do the same. So yes, "Here Me Now" is indeed—essential and you heard it here first.
