Evan Murray, a high school quarterback in New Jersey, died after being injured in a game, and no one seems to know how.

Evan Murray was a senior quarterback for Warren Hills Regional High School who was injured in a game Friday night and later died at the hospital. It's unclear what happened, but Murray was injured on a hit in the backfield, although he did walk back to the bench under his own power. Then, at some point before halftime, something happened on the sideline and the crowd went silent as Murray fell to the ground.

Taylor Coughlin, a sophomore at Warren Hills spoke to Lehigh Valley Live and provided a little more information.

"He was laying on the ground and everyone was looking at him. He did get back up. He stood up with help and sat on a gurney."
He was then taken to an ambulance, she said.
What followed was confusion and concern, she said.

The New York Daily News spoke to several witnesses who said Murray "felt 'woozy' after the tackle but tried reassuring his teammates he would be fine." Another student, Kaitlin Bell, who is also a cheerleader at Warren Hills, said he tried giving the team a thumbs up as he was taken away.

Murray, who was a three-sport athlete and member of the National Honor Society, was taken to Morristown Medical Center, where he died later that night. According to Bell the team came out of the locker room after the game saying Murray might have suffered a heart attack.

The school district issued a statement before a press conference, but it has not let on what happened, and none of the reporting on this story mentions the nature of the injury, nor is there any more information regarding what occurred on the sideline other than what you see above. Interim Superintendent Gary Bowen otherwise declined comment and said a cause of death had not been determined. There are several quotes, however, from students, parents, and administrators expressing shock and disbelief at Murray's death.
