Swansea Post "In-Depth Look" at Player They Thought They Signed, but Didn't

Swansea thought they were signing Enner Valencia, but then he signed with Everton. But the went to the trouble of writing up a profile, so they posted it anyway.

Denial is a powerful drug.

Swansea City thought they were signing Ecuadorian striker Enner Valencia on loan from fellow Premier League team West Ham United. But they didn't sign Ecuadorian striker Enner Valencia. Everton did. The Toffees hijacked the deal at the last moment, as often happens on transfer deadline day.

So Swansea just decided to pretend that they had signed Ecuadorian striker Enner Valencia anyway.

A whole day after Valencia eschewed Wales for Liverpool, Swansea posted "an in-depth look at the Swans' latest signing" on its website on Thursday morning.

"Enner Valencia is nicknamed Superman in South America," it said in an intolerable font, before the whole post was quickly taken down. "Now comes the challenge of spreading his hero status to South Wales. Valencia has arrived at Swansea City on a season-long loan from West Ham United despite making six appearances in claret and blue in the opening weeks of the new campaign."

Yeah…no.

Valencia, by the way, scored all of four goals in each of his two seasons with the Hammers.
