Running back Trent Richardson—an All-American and twice national champion at Alabama, a bust in the NFL, and currently a free agent—was arrested in Hoover, Alabama on Thursday night and charged with a count of third-degree domestic violence, according to Birmingham's WVTM.

The incident took place at a hotel after Richardson and an "adult female" were fighting at a nearby Walmart. Richardson was booked into jail with a $1,000 bond and was released at 3pm local time Friday.

"Officers were able to make contact with an adult male and adult female who were involved in a domestic altercation," police said in a press release. "After interviewing both parties it was determined that the two individuals had been arguing earlier while at the Walmart on John Hawkins Parkway and that the dispute continued after they arrived back at the hotel. At some point the situation turned physical and the female sustained injuries (scratches and bruising) about her face."

Richardson is 26, and his NFL career has taken him from the Browns to the Colts and later to the Raiders, and Ravens; for the latter two, he was an offseason and practice squad player. Richardson was released by the Ravens in August.
