Another day, another miserable own goal. This time, it's across the pond in the FA Cup in a match between Premier League winners Leicester City and Championship side Derby County. Leicester were awarded a corner kick in the 15 minute and Marc Albrighton fired it into the penalty area where Robert Huth was able to get his head to it. From there, disaster.
Huth's header went into a Derby defender's leg and somewhat softly bounced in front of the goal line, right at Darren Bent's feet. Bent then took a wild swing, reminiscent of your humble writer's gym class days, and completely shanked the ball into his own goal. In the the slow motion replay, you can see Bent just straight up misses the ball, and hits it with, like, the outside of his ankle and puts a ton of english on it so even though his foot was going forward, the ball went to his left.
It's not all bad for Bent and Derby County, though. He equalized—using his more reliable head this time—six minutes later, and the sides played to a 2-2 draw, requiring a replay at Leicester's King Power stadium to determine who advances.
