Dive into a Pool of Anxiety With Compound’s Futurist Rhythms

The Melbourne producer's gravelled synth tones are the sound of 2017 tearing apart.

Warning: This video contains flashing lights and fast edits which may cause seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy.

We've said it before, Per Bystrom is one of the most talented, if under appreciated drummers in Australia. His work in Ooga Boogas, Exhaustion, and of course Leather Towel, is subtle but first-class that takes on kraut rock and garage punk.

As a solo artist, going by the name Compound, Bystrom is developing a sound and style away from the drum stool. His new cassette Eternal Estate, released on Melbourne label Nice Music, takes synth tones and static and boils it down to the bottom of the kettle. Tense music that leaves you with the same feeling of passing a cop radar while ten over the limit.

The video to "Tolerance Range", a track from the cassette, adds more tension as simple but fast edits and flashing lights creates an uncomfortable dread.

Compound performs in Melbourne Oct 14 at MESMA Studio with Match Fixer, Karli White, Dead Boomers and Regional Curse.

'Eternal Estate' is available from Nice Music.
