Venezuela is reeling from violent anti-government protests that have left at least two people dead and more than 100 detained. Protesters are demanding new elections and denouncing President Nicolás Maduro, who they say is inching closer to a dictatorship. On Tuesday, protestors threw objects at Maduro as he drove through a rally in the southeastern state of Bolivar.
Venezuela’s economic crisis has left many without food and medicine since 2014. Protests reignited April 1 after the Supreme Court stripped power from Venezuela’s already weak congress. The decision was quickly reversed.
