Bruce Springsteen Is Heading to Broadway

Staring in October, Bruce Springsteen will bring his music and long monologues about fathers, phone booths, and manhood to the Broadway stage with a new solo show called, appropriately, Springsteen on Broadway, the New York Times reports.

The show will run for eight weeks at the 1,000-seat Walter Kerr Theater and will be "as personal and intimate as possible," according to a statement from the Boss.

"I chose Broadway for this project because it has the beautiful old theaters which seemed like the right setting for what I have in mind," he said. "In fact, with one or two exceptions, the 960 seats of the Walter Kerr Theater is probably the smallest venue I've played in the last 40 years."

The show won't just be acoustic versions of "Kitty's Back," though—the Times says that Springsteen will also read excerpts from his brilliant 2016 autobiography Born to Run and perform monologues written specifically for the new show.

"My show is just me, the guitar, the piano, and the words and music. Some of the show is spoken, some of it is sung," Springsteen continued. "It loosely follows the arc of my life and my work."

Last year, Springsteen released a career-spanning compilation called Chapter & Verse that served as a companion to his book. If the Broadway thing turns out to be some kind of live show following in that vein, then it will easily be worth its pricey tickets, which will cost between $75 and $850 a seat.

Springsteen on Broadway opens October 12, with previews earlier in October, and goes Tuesday through Saturday until the last week of November.
