VICE Sports World News Roundup: September 23

Death and goals.

Good morning, America. Welcome to the VICE Sports World News Roundup. Be sure to stop by daily for your morning headlines.

It's the 23rd of September, 2015, and Sepp Blatter is still president of FIFA. Your regular rounder-upper, Brian Blickenstaff, is still on vacation. You'll just have to deal with it, OK? He'll be back soon, I promise.

Very sad news this morning, as legendary Yankees catcher Yogi Berra died. He was 90 years old. He was probably the only professional athlete moms quoted on the regular.

On a slightly more uplifting note, several players on a Spanish basketball top division team, Laboral Kutxa, changed their jersey names to those of refugees for a friendly game.

Let's talk about Robert Lewandowski. The Polish international came on for Bayern Munich at halftime, with his team down 1-0 to Wolfsburg. For the first five minutes, Lewandowski didn't do anything. In the following nine minutes, he scored five goals. No one, not even his manager, could believe it. Wolfsburg is owned by Volkswagen and plays at Volkswagen Arena, so perhaps Lewandowski is the physical embodiment of karma. If only he could score enough goals to make those million tons of extra pollution go away.

Speaking of goals, Mario Balotelli scored an absolute howler, and Angel di Maria scored for PSG and had an assist. He looks to be rejuvenated after his dismal year at Manchester United.

Brian usually does a photo of the day, but I'm not Brian, so here's your motivational Sepp Blatter quote of the day:

What is this notion of time? It is infinite…the more one ages the more time flies by quickly.

Noodle on that one for the day.
