Line Brawl at the End of Flames-Canucks Results in Over 100 Penalty Minutes

Calgary and Vancouver and a full-fledged line brawl at the end of Game 2 that resulted in 132 total penalty minutes.

The Canucks evened the series with the Flames at 1-1 with a 4-1 win last night in Vancouver. Before the score could be officially entered, though, Calgary and Vancouver had to release some stress and knock the piss out of each other for over three minutes. Canucks goalie Eddie Lack scooped up a loose puck and held on for a face off and then the ritualistic skating near the opposing goalie and protecting your own goalie dance began. Brandon Bollig was closest and Dan Hamhuis was there to give him a shove, and everything quickly spiraled out of control.

From NHL.com, here is the penalty summary from the affair:

That is a lot of penalties. In all, 132 penalty minutes were spread out among the ten skaters involved, including three game misconducts for Deryk Engelland. In the playoffs, two game misconducts generally means a suspension, but the rule divides misconducts into different categories and requires two misconducts within the same category to trigger a suspension. As reported by Sportsnet's Elliot Friedman, Engelland's misconducts were divided among three different categories and therefore it seems he won't be suspended.

Game 3 is Sunday night and after the first two games—which featured a last-minute game-winner and now this huge brawl—it's got a lot to live up to.
