VICE Sports World News Roundup: September 1

Start your day with VICE Sports. Here's our morning roundup of the sports news from around the world.

Good morning, America. Welcome to the VICE Sports World News Roundup. Be sure to stop by daily for your morning headlines.

It's the 1st of September, 2015, and Sepp Blatter is still president of FIFA.

Today is transfer deadline in England. In the rest of Europe, save Portugal, the deadline was last night at midnight. This has caused an interesting problem. Apparently De Gea's transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid didn't go through in time. It's tough to make out exactly what went wrong--both parties are blaming each other--but it looks like Real didn't notify La Liga by the deadline. Had they done so, the transfer could have gone through today, on the English deadline. Even Marca, the pro-Real Spanish paper is blaming Real Madrid. A similar thing happened last year when Brian Ruiz transferred from Fulham to Levante, and UEFA didn't allow an appeal (Link in Spanish). Will they be so strict with Real Madrid?

Other transfers—like Chicharito to Leverkusen—happened too. Marca has a rundown of yesterday's major moves.

Louis van Gaal has now managed 50 matches at Manchester United. He's won just as many of them (27) as his predecessor, David Moyes.

In other schadenfreude-inducing news, while David Beckham and co. can't seem to get their act together and actually bring an MLS team to Miami, Italian legend Paolo Maldini seems to be having no such trouble with his NASL expansion team, Miami FC. Maldini just installed another Italian legend, Alessandro Nesta, as head coach.

Serena Williams, maybe the best tennis player ever, and Rafa Nadal are into the second round at the U.S. Open. Good job, you two!
