Time For Dreams’ New Single is Thick Like Heat, and Crisp Like Rain

"Stranger" is the second single from the upcoming Melbourne duo's album, 'In Time.'

Melbourne today is a bit like a sauna. It's the first rainy day we've had in weeks, sending a shiver through the middle of a heatwave. But it's still hot out. The air is sticky and warm and the sky's like a grey lid over everything.

What does this have to do with music, you ask? Well, Melbourne band Time For Dreams are soon releasing their anticipated album In Time, and today on Noisey we have the pleasure of premiering second single, "Stranger."

"That still doesn't answer my question, pal." Fair enough. I hear you. The link is this: Time For Dreams' "Stranger" sounds exactly like today feels. It's sticky and warm like a hot day, but it's crisp and cutting like a break in drought. The bass feels suffocating (humidity), and the drum machine feels refreshing (rain). Do you see?

"[The song] came out of a desire to write a kind of sequel to The Cure's 'Killing An Arab,' basically a pop song about The Outsider (L'Estranger) by Camus." Said the band's Amanda Roff. "Colonialism is permanently on my mind as a white Australian, especially the psychological effects of living in a country in mass-denial of war, violence and terror continually perpetrated against the indigenous people. The book is confronting and speaks to many of my fears about the true nature of human beings, and the inability to ever really know oneself, let alone anyone else."

Time For Dreams are celebrating the release of the "Stranger" with a free show at Tom Tom Howler in Melbourne, on Tuesday the 21st of March. They'll be joined by Strange Day, Simon J Karis, and Golden Syrup. More info here.
