What is the most simple way to keep summer in your mind and in your ears 24/7, 365? That's easy, listen to some Viceroy! People just can't get enough of this dude's solar brand of tropical house rhythms, and everytime he drops a new track, people proceed to (umbrella drink firmly in hand) dive into the nearest body of water, regardless of season, for a full-on aquatic dance party. In tandem with a stream of Two Can's remix of his latest original jammie with Penguin Prison, "The Life," we asked the dude himself to give us the low-down on a few things that make him who he is. Take some cues from the words below and maybe you'll be as cool as Viceroy one day.
HE'S BAY AREA ALL THE WAY
"San Francisco has a wide range of producers living here and the club scene is bustling with all kinds of genres. I honestly think it may have one of the strongest club scenes in the country. I think the relaxed vibe of my city is what has helped curate my vibe. I Love me some Grateful Dead so its very possible im influenced by their mellow minded culture."
HE PLAYS FOR TEAM "JAMS," NOT TEAM "BANGERS"
"Jams have a far longer shelf life than a banger. Jams also can be multigenerational and have multifaceted purposes. With bangers they seem to be definitive to a specific time and place. Im also just very laid back individual so the concept of a jam appeals more to me."
HE LIVES AND BREATHES SUMMERTIME, ALL THE TIME
"Summertime all the time is more than a motto. It's a mindset, a mood, and a vibe. Keeping that in mind all year round makes me forget winter even exists."
HIS MUSIC EQUATES LOVE AND HAPPINESS
"I had a fan once who proposed to his wife when a bootleg of Katy Perry was playing I did when i made when I was starting out. That was pretty mindblowing."
HIS SWAG IS SERIOUS
"I pretty much get nonstop compliments about my wardrobe which is super flattering. The ladies love them so that's always a plus. I just look for specific pieces and build my wardrobe from there. "
HE'S A GEAR HEAD
"I love using some hardware like my juno or prophet and even my electric guitars. i also use a lot of vintage synth replicators."
