Take a Break from the Mince Pies and Make This Banana Coconut Smoothie

Serve in your best festive tumbler and it’s almost like drinking a Baileys. Almost.

It's less than two weeks until Christmas. If this were Love Actually, you'd be declaring your undying love via placard to a mate's wife or making ill-advised dashes through airport security by now.

But you're not in an early noughties rom com. You're onto your fourth full-turkey-dinner-with-all-the-trimmings of the week and have been dipping into a tub of Quality Street approximately every half an hour since mid-November. You're popping mince pies in your mouth like they're Tic Tacs and having nightly "Christmas catch up drinks!!" with friends you haven't seen since last December. If we cut you, you'd probably bleed Prosecco.

RECIPE: Spirulina and Banana Chocolate Smoothie

One of the best things about Christmas is the excuse it provides for wanton gluttony and excessive boozing, but that doesn't mean we should forget entirely about vegetables. (Remember those?) Or just, y'know, any food that isn't mulled, flavoured with nutmeg, covered in gravy, or doused with icing sugar.

What we could all probably do with rn is a Spirulina and banana smoothie. This simple but nourishing beverage from Reggae star and vegan Chronixx is packed with healthy kale, banana, and Spirulina (a protein-rich algae supplement), but also tastes kinda chocolatey and decadent, thanks to the addition of dates and cacao powder.
