No, no, it’s not another list. It’s a mixtape, the finest in innovative, future-forward sounds assembled by your pals at Motherboard. You get one track a day from now until the end of the year, and then it all comes together into the best document of the future of music seen from the year 2011 on the internet.

*AR, “Decline”

*AR is electro-acoustic composer Richard Skelton and vocalist Autumn Richardson making minimalist chamber music built on slowly evolving loops of strings, feedback, and, basically, one haunting vocal melody repeated again and again and again. On one hand, it’s frustratingly subtle, precise to the point of math, yet its gradual tectonic changes — which should be listened to, really, with the a whole album Wolf Notes, which can be done for free here — feel as controlled or piloted as melting glaciers slipping off Ellesmere Island. Cold, crystalline, and anarchic just at the edge of perception.
