Chris Bosh Fails Physical, Miami Career Likely Over

Chris Bosh suffers yet another setback in his attempted comeback from a blood clotting issue that cut short the previous two seasons.

The Miami Heat released a statement today revealing that while they had previously anticipated being able to medically clear Chris Bosh to play in the upcoming season, they were unable to do so following his preseason physical. The team is prohibited from elaborating further due to the CBA, but the Miami Herald reports that doctors discovered more signs of blood clotting, a condition that has kept Bosh out of uniform for large chunks of the past two seasons.

The complication, believed to be in his lung, involved evidence of some continued clotting and is believed to be related to one of two previous blood clot episodes. Those episodes sidelined Bosh after the All-Star break each of the past two seasons.

Though the complication is not considered life-threatening if treated, it requires medication and playing with it is considered unrealistic.

Bosh was also diagnosed with a clot that travelled to his lung in February 2015, as well as another clot in his leg in February 2016. Both kept him out of action over the second half of those seasons.

The Heat and Bosh have had sort of a tumultuous relationship as his condition has remained up in the air, with Bosh looking to the NBPA to help force the Heat to clear him to play in the playoffs back in May. But things seemed to have thawed (somewhat) since then, and as recently as last week Bosh seemed optimistic that he would be back in action for training camp.

After Arison's tweet, Bosh was asked if he planned on attending training camp, which starts in four days, and he said "absolutely."

"I mean, I'm ready to play. We've been talking about it for a long time. We released a statement back in May, saying, as soon as I'm ready to play, as soon as possible, we'll play. And I'm ready. I've done all my work. I've done what I needed to do, working with the doctors. I'm in incredible shape, at least decent enough. You know, I look good when I take my shirt off."

While Heat owner Micky Arison and Bosh appeared to be on the same page, not so for Bosh and president Pat Riley. And now, after the failed physical, it's sounding like this might be the end for Bosh and the Heat.

According to the Herald it's unclear if Bosh will attempt another comeback elsewhere, but he is not expected to fight the Heat's decision.
