Bob Huggins Collapsed on Court When Defibrillator Went off During Game

Huggins appeared to (jokingly?) blame one of his players for the incident.

Right before the end of the first half in Morgantown, West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins collapsed on the court, and then clutched his chest. He was down on both knees, and players called over medical staff to come check him out. Eventually, Huggins got up and was able to sit back down on the bench. He looked OK, as if it was just a momentary thing, and even appeared to (jokingly?) blame one of his player, Jevon Walker, for the whole incident. He finished the half and then was checked out further in the locker room, after which he told ESPN's Holly Rowe that his defibrillator went off.

Huggins described feeling as if someone had slammed him in the back when it went off. He also said he was a little lightheaded when trying to get back up.

"That's what happened when I fell down before; you stand up, you get lightheaded," said Huggins, who added it's only the second time the defibrillator has gone off.

"It goes off, and what it does is it shocks your heart back into rhythm," said Huggins. "I'm like 99.9 percent of other guys my age in America -- I got AFib [irregular heartbeat]. Jerry [West] has AFib for crying out loud; he does the commercial."

The moment unnerved everyone on the court, even Texas head coach Shaka Smart checked to make sure he was OK. Huggins has had heart problems before, and initially had the defibrillator implanted after suffering a heart attack on a recruiting trip in 2002.

He was back on the court for the second half and finished out the game, which the Mountaineers won, 77-62.
