What’s a Movie You Enjoyed Watching Someone Watch?

Sometimes, it’s almost as good as watching the movie itself for the first time.

This weekend, during a family Thanksgiving, I had the great pleasure of introducing my sister to one of the best movies of the year, if not the decade.

Get Out is a horror movie about race. Combining horror tropes with biting satire about race in America, false white wokeness and the very worst things a white girlfriend can possibly do, it's twisty, resonant, and important.

Watching my sister (who typically has great taste in movies, her dislike of Wonder Woman aside) go through the roller coaster of a first viewing was a lot of fun. I was all but bursting with excitement throughout, and in an effort to keep my mouth shut, started idly playing a Switch game.

It really is very fun to watch someone make their way through a fantastic horror movie for the first time, to delight in every “oh my god!” and “what the hell?” they utter, all to the devious final moments.

When she woke up the next day, her first words to me were about the movie—realizing little details, noticing setups better. It's a movie that bears repeat viewing for many reasons, but watching with a first-timer is especially magical.

How about you, readers? Have you ever had a very good time leading a friend or loved one through a beloved movie? Let me know in the forums!
