Helix Revives DJ Vague for a Set of Gleefully Overstimulating Club Tracks on Anarchostar

Recent Fade to Mind signee Leonce also delivers a remix of the lead cut.

Atlanta producer Helix, aka Beau Thigpen, has rejuvenated his DJ Vague alias to share a new EP called Restoring Nature on Anarchostar, the audio-visual imprint run by American futurist Distal. When THUMP interviewed Distal about the label last year, he explained that each release explores a different aspect of its eponymous sci-fi world, and Thigpen is here to tell the tale of a technocratic government, autonomous drones as political actors, and the terraforming of earth.

The comic created to accompany the release is available for your perusal on Anarchostar's website, and the EP stream is premiering today on THUMP. Much like his previous work as DJ Vague, these are graceful, fine-tuned, and razor sharp DJ tool-like constructions, but this collection arguably burns just a little faster and brighter than 2014's Porsche Trax and Hard Workin' Trax. Delivering Errorsmith-like, full spectrum anvils of sound rendered psychedelic in their overstimulation, these tunes are gleefully intense, evoking in their machine work the kind of cyber-militarized tone of their Anarchostar home.

DJ Vague was pretty vague when we asked him for background on this work; he said: "It's a record about green tech, I'm on the side of the drones," but the music speaks for itself. Check out the three originals and the comparably slow and moody, but still great, remix from recent Fade to Mind signee Leonce below.
