Auburn Scores Twice In 90 Seconds

Auburn scores quick thanks to two big plays and an interception to take 26-21 lead over Alabama into halftime.

Auburn used The Big Play to stun Alabama with ten quick points to close out the first half of the Iron Bowl. With 1:23 left in the half, Alabama took a 21-16 lead following a one-yard T.J. Yeldon touchdown run to cap off a seven-play drive. By the time the half ended, Auburn led 26-21.

After the Yeldon score, Auburn needed only two plays—the second of which was a 68-yard bomb from Nick Marshall to Sammie Coates—to get back the seven points. On Alabama's next possession, Blake Sims was intercepted by Jonathan Ford and returned 14 yards to the 'Bama 41 with 37 seconds left.

Auburn again wasted no time and Marshall and Coates hooked up again for a big play. This time they lined up Marhsall wide and ran a wildcat play to his side of the field, pitched it to him on a horizontal flea flicker of sorts, and he found Coates again for a 40-yard strike that went to the Alabama one. Auburn couldn't punch it in for the touchdown, but did tack on a field goal to take the lead and finish a second quarter where the Tigers scored 20 of their 26 points.
