Artist and biochemist Linden Gledhill recorded this video using a high-speed camera, according to Concept Zero. Typically, ferrofluid is made up of five percent magnetic particles, 10 percent surfactant and 85 percent carrier fluid. The particles are magnetized in the presence of a magnetic field, and the whole substance tends to take on a spiky shape as it tries to stabilize itself. They're considered "colloidal suspensions," materials with properties of more than one state of matter. Dude.
