The myth is about to become reality. Well, pretty soon anyway.

Prop Taniela Tupou - who goes by the nickname 'Tongan Thor' - has been named in the Australian rugby squad for their upcoming European tour.

The 20-year-old Tongan-born prop, who weighs a bruising 135 kilograms, has lit up the internet since he signed a contract to play in Queensland in 2014.

Stories about the ball-handling ability and bulldozing strength of Tupou are legion. Simply Google 'Tongan Thor' and feast your eyes on his sheer rugby brute force, which was first sighted when he was playing high school ball for the Scared Heart College 1st XV in Auckland two years ago.

New Zealand Rugby tried to secure his future, but Tupou was lured to Australia to play due to his brother Criff living there. He bounced around the Super Rugby franchises on futures deals, before landing with the Queensland Reds - whom he made his debut for this season.

Don't expect the thunder to reign quite yet though. Tupou is still 12 months away from completing a three-year IRB international eligibility requirement so he can play for Australia; meaning the upcoming tour will see him travel as a 'development' player.

Expect some of the Wallabies to get some mighty big hits in training, then.
