Muslim and non-Muslim activists alike met up to prepare for a demonstration against Denmark's new “burqa ban.”
“My life is going to change very drastically. It means every time I leave my front door I’m actually a criminal."
Lawmakers were free to vote in accordance with their personal views, and 74 did not vote at all.
“Female students wearing the burqa, and radical groups, they are disturbing the teaching process.”
The European Court of Human Rights upheld Belgium’s contentious ban on partial and full-face veils worn by Muslim women on Tuesday.
"The full veil is not appropriate here, it should be forbidden wherever that is legally possible. It does not belong to us."
A recent YouGov poll put British public support for a burqa ban at 57 percent.
While the national debate on banning the modest swimwear is far from over, a top administrative court has struck down the controversial ban.
"We reject the full veil — not just the burka but the other forms of full veil where only the eyes are visible," said Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere on Friday.
