For this week's Mahal, I caught up with photography legend David Bailey about his recent excursion to New York. With his badass buddy Bruce Weber, he shot classic Harlem in the most unconventional way. Instead of using their go-to lenses on traditional cameras, the duo shot the photos with their cell phones. Here's some of David's photos taken on a digital camera and an excerpt from our brief interview. He only gave me three minutes. I tried my best to make them count.

ΔΙΑΦΗΜΙΣΗ

VICE: What was it like collaborating with Bruce Weber?
David Bailey: I have only done two collaborations in my life, this being one of them. The other time was with Damien Hirst. It was great, but I have always shot alone. Working with Bruce was wonderful.

What is the best thing about photographing the streets of Harlem?
Everything. It is a very special place for me because of the jazz and blues influences.

Are those influences still present today?
They are. On the streets there is so much to photograph. It is not my first time there. I have been before and will go again.

What advice would you give to young street photographers today?
Get comfortable shoes.

Anything else?
The shoes are the most important.
