Lin-Manuel Miranda Is Starring in the New Mary Poppins Sequel

The sequel, appropriately titled 'Mary Poppins Returns,' will apparently be set in 1930s London and star Miranda as Jack, a street lamplighter and buddy to Emily Blunt's Poppins.

Hamilton star Lin-Miranda Manuel has decided to take a break from endangering Harriet Tubman's $20 bill plans and singing tributes to Prince so he can star in Disney's upcoming Mary Poppins sequel alongside Emily Blunt, Entertainment Weekly reports.

The sequel, appropriately titled Mary Poppins Returns, will apparently be set in 1930s London and star Miranda as Jack, a street lamplighter and buddy to Blunt's Poppins. The pair pop back up in the lives of now-grown Banks kids to help them through a "personal loss."

"Through [Poppins's] unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives," Disney wrote in a press release.

Besides Poppins and the kids, it doesn't sound like any characters from the original movie will be coming back, so no one will have to worry about filling Dick Van Dyke's shoes. Burt the Chimney Sweep would probably be dead from ball cancer by the time this movie is set, anyway.

The movie will be directed by Rob Marshall and is slated for release on Christmas Day, 2018.
