Do You Have Anything Incriminating On Your Phone or Computer?

What would you do if someone got access to your phone? Because according to the internet, we’re on the brink of a digital Doomsday, where hackers are most definitely going to weasel their way into our technology and spread every dirty little secret they can find. So what do you have that you’re worried about? Naughty photos? Absurdly embarrassing sexts? The extended Panic at the Disco discography?

Or are you not a pervert and have a non-cringeworthy taste in music? London, do you have anything incriminating on your phone or computer? 

Phillip: Yeah, maybe some pictures of me and my girlfriend.

VICE: What would happen if someone found them?
Nothing really. I don’t think I’d feel too bad, but my girlfriend might be a bit pissed off.

Have you ever found something bad on someone else’s computer?
Definitely. I’ve seen porn on friend’s computers. I didn’t say anything to them about it though.

Weird stuff?
No, just the normal stuff – nothing too weird.

That’s a shame.

Richard: Probably, yeah. You mean really incriminating? I’ve got some pictures of, umm, somebody.

Who’s the last person you’d want to look at your computer?
My son.

Oh yeah, that would suck. Have you ever found something incriminating on someone else’s computer?
Yeah, on Facebook. I woke up and the woman I was with at the time had been talking on Facebook with one of my pals. She deleted everything and then brushed it off as though it was nothing. We’re not together any more.

Bloody social media.
Yeah, it’s dangerous. A few people I know have got in trouble for saying they’re ill to get out of work, then posted something saying they’re shopping or in a recording studio, or whatever. Another person lied about her nan dying and people found out about it through social media. It’s amazing what some people will do to get out of things.   

Emily: No, nothing! I mean, there’s some private pictures that not everybody should see, but that’s all.

Who would be the last person you’d want to see those pictures?
The people I work with and the people I have business meetings with and that kind of thing. God, that would be so awkward. I wouldn’t mind my mum or someone seeing because the photos aren’t that bad. 

Tina: No doubt. Sexy talk, naughty messages, naughty pictures, that kind of thing.

Who’s the last person you’d want to see all that stuff?
Either my family or the guy it wasn’t sent to. It’s an honest answer, isn’t it?

It is. Does technology make it harder to cover your tracks?
Oh yeah, definitely. You’ve got to be really on it with text messages, don’t you? You’ve got to erase your history, delete your messages, be careful who’s watching your phone while texting, be careful with your photos, be careful with your status updates – there’s so much.

Jesus, it sounds like there is.

Jodi: Yeah. Probably my internet history. Oh, and a photo of me standing in a mushroom shop this weekend taking mushrooms, which is incriminating in this country.

Do you worry about anything that might be online about you?
Yeah, you have to be your own PR these days otherwise you can look like a dickhead. And it’s even changed going on dates, you know? People set something up then read your Facebook page and they’re like, “Uh, I don’t think I like this person any more.”
