At least 59 people were killed and 175 injured after gunmen attacked a Nairobi shopping centre on Saturday.

The attackers, thought to be from Somali Islamist militant group al-Shabaab, reportedly stormed the Westgate shopping centre around midday, throwing grenades and firing automatic weapons as they ran inside.

Witnesses say that the attackers told all Muslims to leave, claiming that they were there to "rescue" them.

Representatives of al-Shabaab have claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was a response to Kenyan military operations in Somalia.

The UK Foreign Office has confirmed that three Britons have been killed, and says the number is likely to rise, with David Cameron calling the attack "an absolutely sickening and despicable attack of appalling brutality".

PAKISTAN'S CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY SUFFERED ITS WORST EVER ATTACK
A Taliban suicide attack on a church has left dozens dead

Taliban suicide bombers killed 75 Pakistani Christians and wounded over 100 more after blowing themselves up inside a Peshawar church.

The country's embattled Christian community have suffered a number of non-lethal attacks in the past, such as mob violence and church burnings – and five people were killed at a church in 2002 – but this marks their most devastating loss attack ever.

The Jundullah wing of the Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility, with a spokesman saying, "They are the enemies of Islam, therefore we target them. We will continue our attacks on non-Muslims on Pakistani land."

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said, "Terrorists have no religion, and targeting innocent people is against the teachings of Islam and all religions. Cruel acts of terrorism reflect the brutality and inhumane mindset of the terrorists."

Two French police officers have been ordered to face trial over the deaths of two teenagers in 2005.

The two boys – Zyed Benna, 17, and Bouna Traoré, 15 – were electrocuted while hiding from police in a power substation in Clichy-sous-Bois, north of Paris, in October 2005, sparking the worst rioting France had seen in decades.

A subsequent investigation found that Benna and Traoré hadn't committed any crime, but fled when a police van crossed their path and were chased towards the highly dangerous electricity substation.

The two accused policemen will face trial on charges of "non-assistance to a person in danger" for failing to come to the boys' aid, though their lawyers argue the officers never thought the boys were hiding in the substation.

Adel Benna, Zyed's brother, said, "To turn the page we need a trial. We're waiting for explanations."

People Who Probably Shouldn't Be Politicians
A UKIP MEP WAS SUSPENDED FOR BASICALLY EVERYTHING HE'S DONE IN RECENT MEMORY
Godfrey Bloom's latest faux-pas was calling a room of women "sluts" and hitting a journalist

UKIP, the most dedicated trolls in the history of British politics, won their latest Wikipedia edit this weekend.

Godfrey Bloom – UKIP MEP for Yorkshire and Humber, and he of "bongo-bongo land" fame – outdid himself at the party's annual conference by joking that a group of female activists were "sluts", before hitting a journalist over the head with a UKIP brochure while saying something confusing about him being a racist.

Channel 4 News reporter Michael Crick had asked Bloom why there were no non-white faces on a campaign flyer, which the MEP somehow took to be a racist statement.

He also later said that his version of the word "slut" meant being "untidy, [that] you leave your kit lying around", which is not unlike his justification that "bongo-bongo land" just has something to do with antelopes and really isn't racist at all.

UKIP leader Nigel Farage said that Bloom's behaviour had "gone beyond the pale", and party chairman Steve Crowther later confirmed the whip would be removed from Mr Bloom, suspending him from formal involvement in party business.

IT'S NOT TOTALLY COOL TO MASTURBATE IN PUBLIC IN SWEDEN
The Mail Online said that it was

The Mail Online reported that it's now legal in Sweden to masturbate in public, just as long as you don't look at anyone specifically while you're doing it.

Their report came after a 65-year-old Swedish man was acquitted of sexual assault after pleasuring himself on a beach in Stockholm in June of this year.

But while the district court of Södertörn threw out the charge on the grounds that he didn’t look at anybody while fondling himself, and therefore hadn't targeted anyone in particular, the Mail's assertion that this set a legal precedent was based on an erroneously translated quote they lifted from Swedish English-language news site the Local.
