The Rise and Fall of Bromley Exposed

Bromley Exposed was an anonymous Twitter account dedicated to exposing "sluts/hoes/players/cheaters from Bromley". Essentially, it was Bromley's answer to Gossip Girl. Except I don't think I've ever heard anyone on Gossip Girl use the term "violently bummed on a beach".

Though it only lasted four days before it was removed from Twitter (RIP), the page was massively popular, gaining over 8,000 followers, all desperate to find out who had sucked off who in a tent, and which of their teachers had shagged which of their classmates on the bonnet of a car outside of a house party.

It was first brought to my attention when a friend of mine was featured on there. So before I spoke to the people who were running the Twitter account, I called my friend up to ask her about it.

VICE: Hey Becky. What was said about you on Bromley Exposed?
Becky: I think it was something along the lines of: 'massive slag, cheating on her long-term boyfriend with about four blokes'. It wasn't so bad, as I don't have a long-term boyfriend, so it obviously isn't true. The only thing that annoyed me was the fact they named where I worked. Which doesn't look very good when I'm currently trying to get promoted. Also, I heard that someone wrote I was a lesbian, but I never saw that one. Who told you that you were on there?
My little brother texted me and told me! And then tweeted: 'gutted when your sister ends up on @Bromleyexposed…' Thanks, little bro. Has it totally ruined your life? I checked out a few of the other people who've been "@'d" on there, and they don't seem at all happy about the situation.
In all honesty it's been cracking me up, I know a few people who were on it and I guess it softens the blow a bit when everyone's laughing at each other. Who do you think started up the account?
It probably started off as a laugh for someone, but I bet they didn't realise quite how much it would take off. It became some sort of 'movement' and they started thinking they were doing good for the community. Either way, it's been shut down and it was only a few days of a power trip, but I guarantee this person will get found out, and I'm sure a lot of people would like to have words with them.

Keen to find out if my friend's predictions were correct, I got in touch with the person behind the Twitter account, who would only identify himself as 'Bromley Exposed' (this is either a false name, or a really big and weird coincidence). VICE: So how many of you are involved in Bromley Exposed?
Bromley Exposed: Well let me just say we are a team, a close group of people. I only created it myself, but as I wasn't expecting it to evolve in this way and give me all this power I have, I had to employ some people to help. Employ people? Are you paying people to tweet? Or are they your mates?
No money has been exchanged in any way yet. They're all people I know and trust volunteering. Okay, so a close-knit team working together, based in Bromley?
We are all based in different areas but, as everyone knows, we started in Bromley. OK. So why'd you start Bromley Exposed?
I've always been portrayed as a bad guy, so it was time to let everyone know what everyone else is really like. It wasn't a joke at all, but never in a million years did I think we'd be at this stage. You were portrayed as a bad guy? What sort of things would people say about you?
From my school days when I was a kid, my teenage life, and even recently, women have always thought I'm a player when I'm not. I wanted something different, I wanted people to talk, because this area is known for being a place where people talk behind each others' backs. I wanted to change the way people feel about this area and get all that information out. So do you worry about being found out? How would you feel if someone were to "expose" you?
No, not at all, Twitter has the highest security I know, and if anyone was to hack my account, which is very unlikely, I would sue them for everything they have :) I see. It's all very high-security at Bromley Exposed HQ by the sounds of things. Do you worry about ruining people's lives?
At first we felt guilty, but now we are doing nothing wrong, as people are saying we are the best thing to come out of Twitter!

I asked a few more questions, but Bromley Exposed never got back to me. Perhaps he was found out and lynched? Or maybe he just got bored of me? Or maybe the power the Twitter account granted him became too great, and he was turned into pure energy like at the end of Aladdin, I guess we'll never know (and TBH, I'll probably stop caring by the time I finish typing up this post).

Update: A few similar "Exposed" accounts have sprung up on Twitter recently (here's Barnet, Croydon and Lewisham) but none of them are as popular as Bromley was yet.
