God bless Meyhem Lauren. Mandatory Brunch Meetings is a glorious collection of Queens Rap that begins with him angrily directing a brunch meeting (Why is that one guy not wearing a name tag? Why does the waitress's breath smell weird?) and ends with him riding out on a chopped-and-screwed chorus in which producer Mike Finito samples Lauren's own voice. Lauren's a slang technican to the highest degree--if you're not constantly rewinding this to figure out what he was saying, you're listening to this tape wrong. His main man Action Bronson shows up for two guest verses, but besides Action and A.G. Da Coroner, Lauren takes these productions--from guys like Alchemist, Harry Fraud and Tommy Mas--down on his own. Mandatory Brunch Meetings is yet another entry in what's turning out to be an amazing year for New York rap.
