You Need to Hear This

Hear the Original Vocal Tracks from "Regulate", "Still DRE", and "Bombs over Baghdad"

These isolated hip-hop vocals give Outkast, Dr. Dre and Warren G some breathing space.

If you're a vaguely famous producer that regularly gets paid thousands by major labels to bring an ounce of credibility to their beige new pet project by spunking out a remix in half an hour, then hearing isolated vocal stems will be of little excitement to you. For the rest of us though, hearing a solo vocal provides a moment of intimacy with an artist that you rarely get from lush studio production. The Isolated Vocals Soundcloud page has vox tracks from some of the biggest artists in the world. We started listening to a few and they made us feel funny inside.

Annons

Bombs Over Baghdad - Outkast

The best song of the decade

has been praised within an inch of its life, not just for its political prescience, but its lightning delivery. I'm sure you've sat down with a lyric sheet and played it through twenty times, but this version gives you a chance to hear the perfection of Andre and Big Boi's delivery, speed-spitting lyrics like they're both hardwired into the CNN ticker. Fuck me, I can't believe half of the most incendiary rap group of all time is going to be regularly appearing on

Channel 5

.

Still DRE - Dr. Dre

One of the most played hip-hop tracks of all time, but listened to like this it takes on a different character. Dre and Snoop's emphasis on each "stiiiil" becomes less a statement of perpetuation and one of omnipresence. Plus it's great to hear Dre running through Compton pastimes (

drive-by's and ak-matics/s

wap meets/sticky green/bad traffic) like he was a travel agent.

Hey - Pixies

It's always great to hear Frank Black gurning and groaning like a man on the brink. The "Hey" acapella is almost unrecognisable, different vocal takes shoved together and gated with ruthless abandon.

And finally, because why the hell not, probably the greatest vocal ever laid down on Long Beach. Even without the blazing production, Warren and Nate's vocals are audible sunshine.
