Question Of The Day

Who Will You be Voting For?

"I can't think of anything more private".

The author with a poll card looking confused.

With the upcoming elections being held tomorrow in Sweden, new public polls are published on what feels like every minute. It's obviously impossible to know who's going to have political power over the next four years already now. Especially considering that the polls are constantly changing.

As I belong to a generation some might consider to be blessed with choices – choices that only really make me confused – I thought I'd ditch the polls in the newspapers, and do some hands-on journalism myself.

So I went out and asked people what they will be voting for to get an idea of who will actually win, and to you know, get inspired.

VICE: Who will you be voting for?
Martin, 24, student: Feminist Initiative.

Why?
Because I don't like the Sweden Democrats and it's the only way to make them lose political power. My hope is that the Feminist Initiative will get the pivotal role.

Jörgen, 39, Deputy Headmaster: The Green Party.

Why?
Well, because of the environment. No, but seriously, the Green Party are the only ones who takes the debate about climate issues to the level it deserves.

Kerstin, 31, investigator: I really want to keep that for myself.

Why is that?
It's very private. I mean, I can't think of anything more private. I don't even tell my partner.

You don't tell your partner?
No, I want it to be the thing I have for myself.

Waldemar, 71, retired: The Social Democrats.

Why?
They have a lot reasonable opinions. I mostly care about the issues for older people, but the Social Democrats also have fine politics when it comes to the youths.

Did you vote for them in the previous election?
Yes, I've voted for them for a long time.

Inger, 64, works at Save the Children: The Social Democrats in the parliament election and the Green Party in the European parliament election.

Why do you vote for two different parties?
I'm really more to the left than the Social Democrats, but this time I want to vote for broader politics. The Green Party because of the smart way they talk about how to deal with climate change. I thought about Feministic Initiative for a while but they are way too unrealistic when it comes to taxes.

What will you be voting for?
Peter, 42, musician: I still haven't decided.

Between?
The Social Democrats and the the Moderate Party.

That is a very wide spectrum, I must say.
Yeah, I know, but for me it's about school, and both parties, even though they are on each side of the scale, they have some good plans for education. Different plans, but still good.
