The Hangover News

Very distressing things happened in Syria this weekend, but you were too busy throwing snow at kids to notice.

VERY SAD AND DISTRESSING THINGS ARE HAPPENING IN SYRIA
The consequences of Bashar al-Assad's fight to retain power are horrible

(via - note: this is gory, you might not want to look at it)
This weekend, some pretty awful videos surfaced on the internet as Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad continued his assault against his own people.

In the one above, two casualties lie on what look like hospital beds. The first, what looks like a young man, has had the lower half of his jaw completely blown off, while the second, a young boy, has lost half a leg. Both are somehow conscious. Sunday saw one of the deadliest attacks thus far, as residents of the city of Homs were fired upon as they searched for bodies in rubble. Al-Assad's forces kept up the shelling all weekend, though no one's really sure exactly how many people died in that time, because journalists aren't very welcome in Syria ATM. Some estimate 50-60, others 250-300. The targets of al-Assad's men included a local hospital, women, children and anyone else who happened to be walking around in the street. Meanwhile, US secretary of state Hillary Clinton derided China and Russia for vetoing a UN action to be tougher on al-Assad. "What happened yesterday at the United Nations was a travesty," she said. "Faced with a neutered security council, we have to redouble our efforts outside of the United Nations with those allies and partners who support the Syrian people's right to have a better future." Some other things happened this weekend. Wanna find out what they were? Go to page two.

PEOPLE MARCHED FOR AND AGAINST VLADIMIR PUTIN IN MOSCOW
Apparently he's pretty fond of power

Photo via (via)
A lot of Russian people got worked up about that guy they have over there who wrestles bears and likes power a lot. Somewhere between 35,000 (police figures) and 120,000 (protest organisers' figures) Russians marched through Moscow calling for a "Russia without Putin". They are angry because they dispute the results of a parliamentary election held in December, which they claim Putin rigged so that he can more easily return to power at presidential elections in March. According to the Guardian, most of the people who are pissed off come from the urban middle class. Some people came dressed up funny, like clowns or knights on cardboard horses. Media
SOMETHING CALLED 'TeaMp0isoN' HACKED THE DAILY MAIL'S RECIPE PAGE
"Stop brainwashing and lying to the British public with your pro-Zionist, racist, fascist and islamophobic propaganda"

A group of people calling themselves TeaMp0isoN hacked the Daily Mail website for a few hours on Sunday. I think they're an off-shoot of Anonymous. Judging by the video they left on the Mail's recipe page, they also appear to be a mediocre rap crew. UK
IT SNOWED
You know what snow looks like, right?
